Descriptions

Autumn Blaze

Autumn blaze is from the Acer freemanii family of cultivars is they are a cross between silver and red maple. They are fast growing trees with exceptional fall color. The Autumn Blaze is very popular and has won many awards for being an outstanding tree. Can pose problems in soil with high PH but is much more tolerant then the Red maple species It will grow to 40-50 ft with a spread of 35-40.

Basswood

Basswood (Tillia Americana) also know American linden has fragrant flowers and large heart shaped leaves that turn a vibrant yellow in fall. Grows to a height of 70’

Bur Oak

Bur oak (Quercus macrocarpa) is a tough tree well suited for our area. It has furrowed corky bark that I think gives this tree an interestingly rugged look. The leaves of oak tree are attractive; they are a rich green with deep curvy lobes that turn to an antique yellow in the fall, and then drop quickly. Bur oaks grow to a height of 50-60 ft and can live for 300yrs. This one has a calliper of 3.5 inches, sits at twenty ft high, and was root pruned so it’s ready to go!

Chanticleer Pear

Chanticleer pear (Pyrus calleryanna ‘Chanticleer’) is a tall and narrow tree that grows to 40 feet. It has a lot to offer, like incredible flower show in spring and glossy dark green foliage that has excellent fall color of deep dark orange. This tree will need pruning until it’s about 15-20 feet which I will be glad to do for you.

Ivory Silk Lilac

Ivory silk lilac (Syringa reticulate ‘Ivory silk’) , small tree at a mature height of 20-30 feet its known for its large slightly fragrant plume of creamy white flower that show up in late May early June and stay for up to three weeks.

Jacquemonti Birch

Jacquemonti birch (Betula ulilis var. jacquemontii) is said to have the whitest bark of all birches. These rare birch have multistem trunks that start a couple inches form bottom. Fast growers they will reach height of 30-40ft. Mutistem trees are growing in popularity, they really show structure and bark to greatest extent. This birch would look best near evergreens like Colorado spruce. Good yellow fall color.

Kentucky Coffee Tree

The kentucky coffee tree (Gymnocladus dioicus) is a unique and rare tree. The bi-pinnately compound leaves gives this tree a tropical look. The bark with its roughened ridges in distinctive patterns adds to its unique appearance. Will show flowers in early spring. The leaves of the tree are the last to come out in spring and give a filtered shade . Will grow to heights of 60-70 feet

Purple Beech

Purple beech (Fagus sylvatica purpurea) begins the season with orangey-copper coloured leaves that turn a deep dark purple as the season progress then for the fall turn to coppery bronze. The leaves then stay on for the winter adding another interest. A very beautiful tree with interestingly smooth grey bark that will grow to height of 60-80 ft., but incredibly slowly. But I think its qualities help make up for that.

Paper Birch

Paper Birch (Betula papyrifera) can be grown as single or clump tree. Has distinctive white, papery bark that peals. Nice golden yellow fall color. Very ornamental. Can grow to a height of 50 feet.

Regal Prince Oak

Regal prince oak (Quercus x warei Regal Prince) is a cross between White and English oak. The words I will use to describe this tree are: stately, upright, columnar, vertical. In other words tall and skinny. It will grow to 50’ by 15’ so perfect for tight spots. It is also great in row planting. It can have vibrant fall color of yellow and orange if the conditions are right. Foliage is a glossy green with a silvery underside that usually stay on tree for part of the winter.

Ruby Red Horse Chestnut

Ruby red horse chestnut (Aesculus x carnea ‘Briotii”) a very nice ornamental, smallish specimen that grows to a height of 25-30 feet. It has unique palmate leaves that really stands out and contrast other trees in the yard , I think. But the big prize are the spring flowers. A ten inch panicle of ruby red flowers fills the tree in spring.

Sugar Maple

Sugar maple (acer sacchaarium) is a hardy maple tolerant of many soils it has what is considered best fall because of the outstanding variety of gold, burnt orange and red color. A dense leaved tree with a shapely oval form that has no significant negative characteristics. I have a few varieties and sizes available from 2-3 inch calliper. I have the species or cultivars like Green Mountain or Fall Fiesta. Cultivars offer special qualities like more reliable fall color, vigor, symmetrical form thicker tougher leaves and resistance to pest.

Sweetgum

Sweetgum (liquidambar styraciflua) . This a southern tree that does fine in our area once its established. I grow mine in a sheltered part of the nursery until they are mature enough to be moved and they have survived the coldest winters we ever had a few years back. This somewhat rare tree has star shaped glossy light green leaves that are free of pest that make for a beautifully clear leaf. The fall color can be outstanding in the fall. If conditions are right you will be amazed to see purples orange and reds. This tree will get to about 50 feet.

Tulip

Tulip (Liriodendron tulipifera) is most admired for it’s big, unique, and attractive leaves. They are a bright yellow-green and turn yellow in the fall and have a squarish shape to them. They do produce flowers though, not many, and usually high up in tree so they are hard to see. Grows to about 60-80 feet.
